The children's online safety is taken very seriously at St. Joseph's. We regularly discuss strategies to stay safe while online.
In every computing project we do, teachers must identify and teach a related element online safety.
Some of the areas we cover include: online bullying or abuse, chatting online, the dangers of clicking yes, why not to give out personal information and how to search for appropriate and reliable information.
Online safety in school also forms part of our safeguarding provision. As such, incidents concerning the safety and welfare of our children and staff are recorded and addressed appropriately.
At home, sometimes children can be given unsupervised access to the Internet. This, potentially, allows them to access all kinds of society (both good and bad) and bring them virtually into their homes.

In Key Stage 2 the children use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. Here are some tips and useful links to help you to keep your children safe online:
- Personal School Email Addresses - every child has their own school email address and password which is unique to them. Through these personal emails children are able to access Google Classroom where they are able share work with their teachers.
- Explore online safety sites together - Below you will find year group appropriate links to the online safety sites we use with our children during the year. Please take the time to look at them yourselves and discuss online safety with your child.
- Facebook / TikTok / Instagram / Myspace / Snapchat - Many of these sites have a minimum age limit of 13, so our pupils should NOT be using them. Be careful with what you or your child shares on social sites.
- Keep your computer in a shared area - Talk to your child about what they are doing online and, if possible, set up your computer in a shared area at home so that you can all share in the wonderful sites that are available online.
