In the event that your child is unable to attend school but can access learning, the class teacher will provide links to the work they can complete through Google Classroom as well as directing you to some of the websites found below where they can practice their times-tables, quiz on books they have read and see what fun activities the class teacher has planned.

In additon our school use Atom School to provide in class work and homework which teachers can load work on for your child if they are off of school.

Homework is set weekly through Google Classroom. It is uploaded to be sent out at the end of the day on Friday and we ask for it back in the following Thursday. This can be handed in through Google Classroom. 

 

Homework varies from class to class, but will typically consist of weekly spellings, reading and times table practice. A selection of other homework activities will usually be available linked to other areas of the curriculum your child is studying. 

 

 

In class children read everyday. We ask you to continue to listen to/check in with your child's reading at least 5 times a week. It only needs to be a few pages but makes a huge difference to their progress. Asking them questions about what they have read really helps develop their inference and retrieval skills. In school we use Accelerated Reader to support your child's understanding. When they have finished reading a book, they can quiz it on Accelerated Reader to check their understanding. Accelerated Reader also provides a Reading Range that lets your child know what level book they should be reading. It is important for children to move up the range methodically after successful quizzes so they can build up their vocabulary and reading ability while maintaining enjoyment!

 

 

The expectation by the end of Year 2, is that you child can recall multiplication and division facts quickly for the 2, 5 and 10 times table. 

 

By the end of Year 3, we would like children to largely be able to complete all tables up to 12x12. 

 

At the end of Year 4, your child sits a times table text based on all the times tables so that is is really important that they continue to practice them and become confident with them. The "Sound Check" feature in Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS) is an excellent way for them to prepare for the government's Multiplication Check as it mirrors the format almost exactly. 

 

Your child has a TTRS Login and we encourage using TTRS very regularly at home, as it is great for quick recall and improving their multiplication and division skills which become vital throughout Upper Key Stage Two - and as such Year 5 and 6 should maintain regular practice too.

We also have Times Table Club Sheets in school where children can work through the levels to become exceptional at their number facts. Having implemented this in 2025 our 2026 MTC results were the highest in school history, and our Year 5 Maths results were significantly improved.

For those taking their 11+ entrance exams, the Clubsheets and Atom School have been excellent early preparation.

So please do support your child with practising their club-sheet each week from Year 2 upwards.
