About St. Joseph's

St Joseph's School was founded in 1904 by the Sisters of the Convent of the Holy Family. The school was granted voluntary-aided status in 1970 under the auspices of the Diocese of Plymouth.

In March 1987 storms destroyed most of the old building and the school survived in temporary buildings until the new school opened in September 1992.
The school is now a beautiful, fully equipped seven-classroom primary school which occupies an exceptional site overlooking the Exe estuary.
Foundation Governors are appointed by the Bishop and elected parent and staff governors oversee the school. We are part of CAST academy and therefore funded by them.
At the moment 30% of our children are baptised Catholics and the remainder are from other faith or non denominational backgrounds. We welcome children from all backgrounds and denominations.
If you would like to find out more about our school you are welcome to visit the school to meet our wonderful staff and pupils. Please email admin@stjo.uk or phone 01395 264875 to book an appointment. We look forward to seeing you!
