Dear Parents,

We are all looking forward to a busy final term together in Class One which started successfully with our trip to Powderham Castle and we wanted to let you know what is happening for the children for the remainder of the term.

Religious Education: Our topic is currently Easter, which follows on with Change and Treasures.

Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL): Through circle time, discussions and fun activities the class will learn about differences and similarities between themselves and their peers.  In the second half of the term we will be looking ahead to the Changes that will take place at the end of this year and preparing the children for their move into Year 2 in September.

English:  Language and literacy work will continue to take place through role-play, speaking, listening, handwriting, reading, writing and phonics activities inside and outside the daily Literacy lesson.  The children will experience fiction and non-fiction texts.  These will include information texts, recounts, poetry and stories with fantasy settings.

Your child will continue to bring a reading book home from school daily.  Please continue to read with them each night as the continued progress the children are making this year is thanks to the additional practise the children are having outside of school as well as within the classroom environment.

Mathematics: Through daily maths activities we shall continue to practise and develop oral and mental skills. The children will continue to build on their individual targets.  We shall be putting a greater focus on children using and applying their maths skills in a variety of contexts, for example with money, measuring and time.

Science: Our first unit is Growing Plants and the children will investigate and describe different plants.  We shall also be growing our own plants in school and finding out what they need to keep them healthy.  The next unit will focus on Light and Dark.  Children will investigate the different sources of lights, look at shadows and the differences between day and night.

ICT: This term the children will learn about how to stay safe on the internet.  They are continuing to build their computer skills in addition to using the RM Maths programme.

Art: In the second half of this term we will be looking at making sculptures in the natural environment.

History: We are currently enjoying looking at Victorian homes after our trip to Powderham and this will link to our DT project of creating a room for a house.

Geography: We will be carrying out a mini topic looking at how to make our local area safer.

Music: We regularly learn rhymes, sing songs and explore the sounds our voices and instruments make.  In addition the children will continue to receive an hour of music each week from our specialist music teacher, Mrs Jepps.

PE: The children receive a weekly lesson with Mrs Little and also continue to follow LEAP into LIFE and our daily physical activities to develop physical literacy.

We are really looking forward to our last term with the children and hope that your child has a very happy time. If you need further information or we can help in any way please come and ask.

Yours Sincerely

Miss H Carey
