Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school and the Spring Term in Class 5.  This letter is to give you some information about the topics being covered during this term.

In Science, we shall be looking at Earth and Space and Sound.  I am currently looking at the possibilities of going on a trip to the observatory in Sidmouth.

This term, we shall be continuing with our study of Japan in Geography.  We shall be looking at the differences and similarities between our countries, including education, industry and history.

We are continuing to follow the national strategies in both Literacy and Numeracy, and I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to continue to hear your child read at home and to practice their tables with them.  I shall also be working regularly on spellings based on the work we are covering in class each week.  Thank you for your support with this.

Our topics in RE this term are Meals, which focuses on some of the church’s celebrations and in particular the Mass.  Special People looks at who makes up our church community and how Jesus is the head of this family.  During Lent, we shall be looking at the Easter Story and its significance for us in our lives today.

Our focus of work in Art is Textiles, and we shall be looking at the production of Tea in Design and Technology.  We shall be exploring the concept of Databases in ICT, as well as looking at Spreadsheets.  Music and PE shall continue on a Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Jepps and Mrs Little.

Finally, if you have any questions, queries or concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to come and see me.

May I take this opportunity in thanking you for all the wonderful cards and gifts I received for Christmas and wish you and your family a happy and peaceful new year.

Yours faithfully,

Robert Hoare.
