Extra-Curricular Sport Activities – Autumn Term 2009

Welcome back to this new term. Hope you had a good summer and found the sun somewhere! Activities planned for afterschool this term are detailed below although other activities may be added through the term.

Tag Rugby

This club will commence Tuesday 8th September and will run every Tuesday through until the Easter term. This club will have no cost as it is part of a community programme running in schools this year. All coaches have been specially trained and the club will cater for children in years 4/5/6. The school takes part in tag rugby festivals so children from this club will get the opportunity to represent the school at these.

Cricket – Multi Skills

This club is run by Trevor who has been working with our school for the last 2 years under the banner of TCC. The club will start on Wednesday 9th September and will then run for 7 weeks until half-term. This club is for children in years 3/4/5/6. There is a cost to the club but in view of the economic climate Trevor has kindly reduced the cost but fees must be paid in one lump sum, or two instalments. Details of exact cost will be on the forms children will need to fill in. These sessions are to develop basic co-ordination, agility, bowling, batting, throwing and catching skills and are good preparation for the cricket club in the summer where children will be involved in playing a full game of cricket. There is also the opportunity for children to represent the school at a tournament in the summer. No equipment is needed.

Football

We are trying out a new football academy this year. The Arsenal Football Academy are offering a free trial session on Thursday 10th September for children. From this session children will be given forms and there will then be a 12 week course starting Thursday 17th September through until December. This club is suitable for children in years 3/4/5/6. I am looking for a parent who may be interested in arranging some football matches against local schools so children from this club get the chance to play for their school. Anybody interested please contact me through the office.

Get Up and Get Active

This club will start Thursday 17th September and will be run by myself. There is no cost to this club and the club is designed for children in years 3/4/5/6. The club will cater for all children but I hope to meet the needs of children who may want to do something active and physical but have no real sporting preference or interest and just want to try out different things. Every week children do either a different sport or an activity that is designed to get them moving physically. Examples of activities considered are aerobics, skipping, running, tennis, volleyball, netball, hockey, dance, gymnastics, handball, cycling but I hope that this club will develop and build upon children’s own interests. Any parents who have a particular interest and would like to do a week. This club will run through to summer.
Hi 5’s Netball
This club will run on a Tuesday lunchtime by myself at no cost. Club will start at 12.45pm and run for half an hour. Children will not need to change for this club. Children in this club will be encouraged to take part in the forthcoming netball league run at the Exmouth Community college. Club will start on Tuesday 15th September and will run through until December, exact date to be confirmed.  Hip HopThis club will hopefully take place on Fridays but exact confirmation has not been given yet. Full details will be sent out when confirmed. There will be a cost to this club. As you may be aware our local partnership are working very hard to provide more opportunities for children to be involved in sport and physical activity at different levels. As a school we have worked very hard at selecting good quality coaches and clubs to offer your children. CRB’s are checked where appropriate. If your child has not yet participated in a club in school please encourage them to do so. It provides the opportunity for your child to socialise with children from different classes, work together as a team, learn and develop new skills and keep them fit and healthy in a fun environment. Taking part in sport helps children to develop confidence, self-esteem, team-work skills and helps develop their co-ordination which links into other areas of learning. Please ask your children to collect the appropriate forms for the clubs as they are given out in school. Over the last 3 years we have improved our numbers taking part in extra-curricular activities but we still need to improve these further. If cost is an issue then consider the clubs that have no cost or contact me via the office and we can discuss this. Looking forward to working with you and your children again this year and thank for your continuing support.  Regards.  Heather LittlePLT/PE Teacher 2 September 2009
