St Joseph’s School, Exmouth 23rd April 2009 Dear Parents, Welcome back to school for the Summer Term. I hope that you had an enjoyable Easter break. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about some of the work we will be covering this term.Religious Education: Our topics will be Good News, Choices and Neighbours (separate shee t). Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL): The first school wide topic is called Relationships. Through circle time, discussions and fun activities the class will learn about how their choices affect others and build on their skills of recognising their feelings and interpreting the feelings of others.Literacy: Language and literacy work will continue to take place through role-play, speaking, listening, handwriting, reading, writing and spelling activities inside and outside the daily Literacy lesson. We will be covering Authors and Letters, Language Play, Information Texts and Dialogue and Plays. We are still very keen to do as much reading as possible in school time, so if you are able to offer any help with hearing readers in school it would be most appreciated! Mathematics: Through daily maths activities we shall continue to practise and develop written, oral and mental skills. Science: Our first unit is Helping Plants Grow. Children will investigate the characteristics of living things and the important factors in plant growth. Our Second unit will be called Light and Shadows. Here children will investigate the movement of the earth and the changes in Shadows through the day. ICT: The children will continue to develop their word processing skills. They will learn how to use email to communicate. History: This term we will be learning about what life was like in Tudor times. We will be looking at the life of Henry VIII and exploring what it was like for ordinary people to live in this time. The children will also be going on a trip to St Nicholas Priory in Exeter on Monday May 18th, where we will spend the day living as Tudors. A letter with more details will follow shortly. Art: In the first half of the term the children will be looking at sculpture, and working towards sculpting their own model Tudor house. Geography: The children will complete a small local study in the second half of term. The children will be actively developing a variety of geographical skills. Design and Technology: In the second half of the term the children will be working on their construction skills and on a pneumatic system, in order to create a Moving Monster. French: The children will continue to receive a lesson each week from our specialist teacher, Mrs Jackson. Music: The children will continue to receive an hour of music each week from our specialist teacher, Mrs Jepps. PE: The children will continue to receive an hour of P.E. each week from our specialist teacher, Mrs Little. They will also be attending Swimming lessons each Friday. Homework: The children will carry on as last term to receive a weekly piece of either Literacy or Maths work. This will continue to be given out on a Wednesday to be returned to school the following Monday. This term Miss Rachael Cox will be working along side me as she completes her teacher training at Exeter University. I am really looking forward to my last term with the children and hope that your child has a very happy time. If you need further information or I can help in any way please come and ask. Yours Sincerely Miss C Crabb Class Three |
